Average net farm income was $322,165 in 2010 for the 97 farms included in this annual report of the Southwestern Minnesota Farm Business Management Association. Average earnings increased by 362% from $69,787 in 2009 (Figure 1). Inflations adjusted profits rebounded after a downturn in 2009 that was caused primarily by low profits in the livestock sectors. Strong yields, substantially higher crop inventory values, and rebounding profitability of the livestock sectors led the way to much higher profits in 2010. This report summarizes the individual farm records of the members of the Southwestern Minnesota Farm Business Management Association for 2011. Whole-farm information and enterprise costs and returns are reported. The year-end analysis of the individual farms was performed by the Association fieldmen using the FINPACK software from the Center for Farm Financial Management. The individual analyses were summarized at the Department of Applied Economics using RankEm Central. In addition to the average of all farms, the averages for the high and low income groups are also presented.
